Monitoring

From the Diocese’s Safe Ministry Children and Family Policy Manual:

Monitoring helps detect problems before they turn into incidents of abuse, and helps adults avoid wrongful allegations of abuse where none has occurred. Research confirms that off-site activities increase the risk of abuse. Clergy, paid staff, and unpaid member ministers (CPSUMMs) must diligently monitor and supervise children’s and youth activities in all settings.

Monitoring practices include, but are not limited to, the following:

+ All children and youth activities shall be designed to be supervised by two or more screened and trained adults. Rectors may authorize mature youth to assist with the supervision of children, but they shall not supplant an adult.

+ No child will ever be left unattended in a building or on the property during or following a church activity.

+ CPSUMMs will not conduct unobserved meetings or interactions with children.

+ In a discipleship or mentoring relationship with a youth, all interactions must take place in a public place where other people are present.

+ CPSUMMs will watch for any policy violations.

+ All parents will be provided with an open invitation to make unannounced visits where their children are, at any time. …
