The mission of the Safe Ministry Program of the Diocese of Western Anglicans is to assist the leaders of the Diocese and its congregations in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust safeguarding systems to protect children, youth, and adults from abuse and neglect so that they may grow in the knowledge and love of God in a safe and nurturing environment. The Diocese’s standard of care includes:
Screening consists of a series of steps undertaken by the Diocese and its churches to weed out anyone seeking ministry involvement who potentially could intend to do harm.
The Diocese provides stablished, clear, and enforced boundaries for what is and what is not appropriate behavior within a children’s, youth, or adult ministry setting.
We provide timely reporting of abuse or neglect to authorities and sensitive responding to those involved with compassion, pastoral care, and other assistance.
All clergy, staff, and volunteers receive regular, continuing education in abuse prevention, response, and reporting.
Churches provide diligent supervision of all children’s and youth classes and activities by fully screened and trained adults.
