Screening
From the Diocese’s Safe Ministry Children and Family Policy Manual:
…
The following screening process must be followed prior to allowing any adult to provide childcare or to work/volunteer in youth and children’s ministries:
+ Minimum six months of regular attendance for unpaid member ministers in children’s and youth ministries, except where the Bishop, in consultation with the President and Executive Committee, has granted a variance.
+ Verification of the person’s identity.
+ Completion of an application, which shall require each applicant to state whether (s)he and/or other members of the household have been arrested for, or convicted of, any crime involving child abuse and/or neglect …
+ Completion of a Diocese-approved background check and state-required fingerprint check depending on the applicant’s jurisdiction …
+ Completion of personal reference checks by the congregation or church plant.
+ Completion of a face-to-face interview.
+ Completion of Diocese-approved abuse awareness training with a passing score.
We undertake these precautions so that we can have the greatest assurance that those who work with children have the highest degree of protection for the children primarily, but also for the congregation and Diocese.
