September Update from Connie Polite

This is the first administrative update from our chief administrative officer, Connie Polite. These will come out quarterly with additional entries as needed.

Pray for Eric Zolner

Remember to pray for Eric Zolner, our Canon to the Ordinary, as he is on sabbatical until the end of September.

Mandatory Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

The Diocese is implementing mandatory Sexual Harassment Prevention Training via Ministry Safe.  Thank you to the Clergy who have already completed the training.  Before the year ends we will expand the training to Diocesan Staff, the Executive Committee, and begin the push to Parish Staff and Vestries.  The Diocese is covering the cost of the training at $5 per person, but would welcome donations toward the expense from any church

CIPA (California Invasion of Privacy Act)

California's Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA) is a law designed to prevent unlawful wiretapping and unauthorized interception of communications.  It applies to all California entities, including Churches that operate websites accessible to California residents.

Violating the CIPA can have serious consequences, including potential criminal and civil penalties. In recent years, there has also been a significant increase in civil lawsuits involving everyday digital and online business practices. As a result, organizations, including churches, may receive demands for settlement or face arbitration or litigation over alleged CIPA violations.

The Diocese has added a banner to the bottom of the DWA website that can be replicated on individual Parish websites.  Though Arizona and the YMD are not subject to do not have the equivalent of CIPA, we recommend you be proactive, research your state’s requirements and add a like banner on your site.

Synod Delegates

Calling all Synod Delegates to stand by for a Zoom with the Bishop in September.  We are diligently preparing the required amendments to our Canons which will be voted upon at the Synod Business Meeting on Saturday October 17th.  We plan to have two Zoom dates prior to Synod where you will be able to hear from Bp. Phil and Chancellor Jim Craft about the changes and ask questions.

If you have any questions, please contact me .
